Nutrabaits x Monkey Climber Ltd. Ed. Saffron & Cream / Liver Supreme pop ups

Limited Edition pop ups. We have worked closely with the lads at Nutrabaits over in the UK to produce these very special pop ups. The flavour combination has been carefully chosen by us, as used very successfully by our editor Gio Vanhooren back in the 90s and thus very old skool! The pop ups have been put through rigorous trials again and have come out with flying colours. They are available in 12mm & 16mm and in a washed out pink Saffron & Cream and a bright white Liver Supreme.

Washed our pink in colour, these pop ups combine dramatically boosted levels of the much whispered about Nature Identical Saffron flavour and our Cream Cajouser enhancer; a blend of attractors that ensure they come up with the goods throughout the twelve months of the year.

Ideal for use as single hookbait or as the buoyant part of a snowman presentation when used along with the ‘straight from the bag’ bottom bait of your choice. If you are looking for a pop up that is selective in terms of the better sized fish: look no further!

The combination of boosted levels our Nature Identical Liver flavour and an undisclosed fruit flavour, rounded off by the optimum inclusion rate of the incomparable Sweet Cajouser produces a Pop Up that seemingly stops virtually everything that swims in its tracks, irrespective of water temperatures or time of the year.

White in colour – which only serves to add to their attraction qualities – they are ideal for any type of water or for any type of pop up application.

Limited amount available only, get them from our Bigcartel through the direct link here.

MC#12 out now, with two alternative covers #hellyeah

Good news, y’all! Our 2017 Summer Issue #12 is out now. As you may have noticed already there’s exceptionally two covers for it, as myself (Gio) and my GF Eve could not agree on the two best concept shots by the talented Oli Davies, lol. Both Oli and Alan Blair himself couldn’t decide either, so in the end we chose to have just two different ones.

The one you’ve probably all seen with Alan Blair’s camou face in close up is the one you get when ordering a single copy online, or at our distro’s. The one below is the limited edition which goes to subscribers only.

Take your 2017 subscription now from or pay 15,99 euros (Benelux) / 24,99 euros (Europe) into our account IBAN = BE27738023294873, BIC/SWIFT = KREDBEBB, c/o Monkey Climber Magazine, Maria Theresiastraat 42, 8400 Oostende, Belgium with your full address details or mail us on

300 short Nash chod rigs & Citruz samples for free!

A hell of a job but someone had to do it… Last Winter we received a big, big box full of Nash end tackle to build no less than 300 chod rigs, plus 300 Citruz pop up samples to give away. It took lots of long evenings and even on shop open days you would see our editor Gio constantly tying up his fav short chod rig. Starting today, each and every order on our Bigcartel shop will receive a free chod rig tied by us, plus a pack of Citruz pop up samples*.

choddy sequence main

For those living on the moon, here’s a short step by step Nash sequence on how to perfectly tie up a chod rig yourselves:

chod ingredients inset

The thing you’ll need: Nash chod ingedrients.

1. Chods require a special type of nylon with specific properties to allow a finished rig to be shaped for maximum efficiency. Alan uses the heavier 25 lb (0.50mm) Diffusion Camo Chod Link.

2. Cut a six to eight inch (15-20cm) length of Chod Link and leaving a ‘hair’ of 5cm whip a five turn knotless knot. Alan wraps the tag end of the Chod Link around the whippings twice on the way back down before passing it through the eye.

3. If you need to leave hookbaits out for long periods pass a 2.5mm metal rig ring on to the hair. Where hookbaits often only need to be out a few hours slide on a Bait Screw instead for faster, easier bait mounting.

4. Pass the tag end down through the eye to form the D loop. Thread the tag through the slot in the Rig Flame Shield and offer a lighter to it. Once the tag burns down to the metal shield simply blow it out – no more burned fingers or thumbs!

5. Thread the tag end of the link through the small eye of a Micro Ring Swivel. Position the swivel along the Chod Link at the distance you want the finished rig to be.

6. Double the Chod Link back on itself, and tie a simple overhand knot, passing the swivel through the loop. Using a loop knot allows you to keep your chods really short, other knots aren’t so good because the link gets longer as you draw them tight.

7. Keep the loop by the swivel small but using the end of the Puller tool, ensure it is nice and round. This helps the bait sit up correctly and gives the link greater movement for better hooking. Small details like this are really important with chods more than most rigs.

8. A chod needs to be in a C shaped curve, helping it spin and look for a hook hold as the bait is lifted off bottom by a carp. There’s no need to steam Chod Link, you can just curve it around your fingers until you get the ideal C shape.

9. Take a short length of 15 lb Armourlink or the fine inner braid from Combilink, pass it through the rig ring and tie an overhand knot to produce a hair the length required for your chosen pop up. Trim the tag ends and blob the knot to keep it secure.

10. From start to finish a good choddy will only take a minute or two to tie up with practice. Add a 10mm Citruz pop up and you’ve got quite simply the very best combination of bait and rig to cast almost anywhere and stand a great chance of catching a carp.

* Everything that is shipped under a flat rate envelope (eg stickers) will only receive the rig and not the pop up samples. Everything that goes into parcels will receive both.

Group of French carp anglers attacked, one might even lose eye

A group of French carp anglers doing a social with their club on the night stretch at Jugon-les-Lacs (Dept. 22) have been ruthlessly attacked by a group of Romanians this weekend.

Apparently tensions between the two groups already during began daytime when the Romanians tried poaching some fish at the lake, leading to a major disagreement with the carp anglers present. After having already returned in group but stopped by the police who were yet present, at night, three Romanians silently returned armed with iron bars, sticks with needles and pins, and an aggressive dog, jumping on their sleeping victim, Mr Gaetan Portier, president of the club. Several carp anglers were injured (mostly bruised), Gaetan’s wife said to local media, but Gaetan himself still is in hospital fighting not to lose his eye. And even if he doesn’t, it still remains quite unpredictable if his sight will ever recover.

Again according to first hand witnesses we received, two carp anglers who knocked out two of Gaetan’s aggressors now risk serious prosecution as these two needed to be hospitalised as well. Can you believe this?

For those who care, please send your wishes to Gaetan himself on his FB profile!

Free bone: new Nashbait Booklet

Our friends at Nash have just released some sweet free bone for y’all: their newest Nashbait Bait Booklet! About time they did so, we’ve been sitting numerous times in the Chesterfields in Nashy’s old HQ looking at all the jawbreaking carp Kevin Nash himself has caught back in the day, but never made to the Benelux press. Now, with the re-release of some of their iconic baits, a part of these are featured in the new booklet, as we noticed.

Nashy’s press release: “Perhaps the greatest carp book ever to be given away the Nashbait Bait Booklet, or Bait Bible as it has become known is 84 pages of full colour, no holds barred insight into the world of modern carp bait by Kevin Nash himself.

From a man who was there in the potatoes and crust era and has shaped carp bait history with the development of Nashbait and its iconic products, this beautifully designed A5 booklet is an essential reference not just for some of Nashbait greatest products but for a unique, warts and all insight into carp bait – what, why and where.

From custom hookbaits to presentation edges, surface fishing, attractor baits and HNVs, even the most time served carp angler can’t fail to learn from this remarkable work.

Pick a copy up FREE at your local Nash retailer now – you’ll never look at carp bait the same way again!”

Advanced Carp Fishing calling it quits

Much to our surprise and dislike we have just learned that our fellow and long time existing publication Advanced Carp Fishing is calling it a day after so many years of existence, their May issue will be their last. Their latest Facebook update confirms the sad news: “What better way to go out than with Laney, Adam Penning, Gaz Farnham, Big Jim and Dave Magalhaes with guest appearances by Terry Hearn and Matt Jackson? There’s a great Chub bivvy to be won too! The May issue will be a collectors’ edition so don’t miss out!”

Still very thankful for running an interview last year guys, will never forget you helping us out. Wish we could do the same now… At Monkey Climber we have always been shouting that print is not dead, but tonight seems it died at least a fair bit 🙁

The Passion reborn!!
